Game Outline

  1. Funeral for a friend
    1. July 16
    2. A simple wooden casket rests upon a dais in the docking bay, the flag of UK Stellar draped over it. Commander Langer stands aside the dais, speaking slowly, solemnly addressing the assembled crew as they stand at attention, save for Lieutenant Anne Swafford, who has broken down, is barely being held up by Lieutenant Commander Andersen. Langer finishes her speech, turns crisply towards the casket, barks a short command, and the assembled sailors salute. The dais angles slightly forward. Goldstein and another enlisted man gently push the casket down the ramp as the MS pilots raise their service rifles and fire a volley, then second, then a third. Captain Stobulous watches grimly as the coffin slips out of the hangar and into the void of space.
    3. Afterwords, PC’s are sitting quietly in their quarters.
      1. Andersen shows up at the doorway.
      2. “The commander wanted me to stop by and let you know personally I’m the new commanding officer of the air department. I don’t have the flying experience Tony had, but we don’t have much choice.
        1. Wait for a response, see how it goes.
      3. First things first – Lopez, Slover – I’m not completely sure what he problem is between the two of you, but let me make this clear – starting now, stifle it. Lopez, you need to check your attitude. I know you’re unhappy about not being in charge, but until you show some maturity, you won’t sniff a promotion under me. We won’t always have people we like in command, but we still have to respect the rank.
      4. And you, Slover: I don’t know if you have a death wish, but you need to get that sorted out. We can’t afford to lose anyone else. You need to lead these men, not go off on your own without a word. If you don’t want to be squadron leader, let me know and I’ll fix that before anyone else dies.
        1. Finn is the new squadron leader
      5. MacNeil: You… keep generally blowing things up the way you have been.
      6. One more thing: Tony had always hoped you guys would have made a decision on call-signs… but since that never happened, here’s the ones he’d worked out for you.
        1. Lopez – Tazer
        2. Slover – Strikeout
        3. MacNeil – Gimpy
      7. Not, get in your flight suits, you’ve got a simulator run in 10 minutes.
  2. Several weeks pass as the Starlight makes its way to the location of the next part of the gate
    1. Andersen stands at the head of the briefing room, in front of a display showing a map of the system. Kalu Venn is here.
    2. This system, called XR-4614 by the Macedonians, has a very old, very hot star at the center. The entirety of the system is engulfed by a Planetary Nebula. It will be much harder to find this part of the gate as a result of the stellar winds and massive magnetic field. There are few points of interest within the system, as any planets that existed here were either torn apart by tidal forces or blown away by the winds… so at least we’ve got that going for us, which is nice. It’s up to you to determine where you wish to search first.
    3. Points of interest
      1. Debris field of a terrestrial planet
        1. Piloting adds 2 setback, and a piloting check is required while navigating this hazard. A failure results in 3 + failures damage
      2. A dense area of helium and other gasses that is the remnant of a gas giant
        1. Sensor and perception checks 2 setbacks. Failures at these checks cause system strain 2 + failures as the intense electromagnetic shock the ship’s systems
      3. Ruins of a Thanatos home ship
        1. The twisted wreckage of a Thanatos home ship, it appears to have been ripped apart from the inside, by what you’re not sure.
        2. Where the part is
      4. An asteroid field
    4. More difficult to find, because of the nebula
    5. Effects of the nebula
      1. Piloting and gunnery and sensor checks upgraded
    6. As you carefully navigate the debris field, you find what you seek – the gate section seems to absorb all light around it. It is tangled in within the largest piece of debris.
      1. It’ll take a piloting to get it out.
  3. Fight with Deimos
    1. When the gate piece is ripped free, all of their scanners light up with a tachyon burst, all around them. The Thanatos ship begins to twist and shudder around them, and the gasses of the nubula immediately surrounding you start to draw in closer around you.
    2. Kalu Venn: By heaven, no! Deimos! This is far too large to take on with regular weapons! We must get out of here as quicky as possible!
    3. The Starlight cannot possibly get out of here that quickly, however the captain has a plan. He requires the pilots draw the attention of deimos long enough for the grav cannon, perhaps a well fired shot into the heart of the creature can disable it long enough to get away.
    4. PC’s are encouraged to come up with ideas. To add to the fun, there are waves of type ones beign generated from within the cloud. The starlight needs time, and they need to give it to them.
      1. 12 successful checks before 6 failures.
