Big Sky Energy Conglomerate

The largest Corporatocracy on earth, after the breakup of the United States in the mid 2000s, large energy interests in the Montana and Dakota regions of the US merged into Big Sky Energy incorporated. The company then was able to fill enough elected positions with their own supporters, or in some larger population centers deploy paramilitary forces to bring them in line, that eventually the legislatures of those states effectively handed electoral control to Big Sky Energy's Board of Directors. With the birth of the Conglomerate, the Board turned its eye to surrounding areas, and was able to convince or otherwise cajole several others states and parts of Canada to join (again, sometimes using mercenaries and it's own burgeoning military). They promised security and stability backed by the strength of oil and other energy dollars.
