Nano-machines

One of the most radical advances in technology in the last 100 years, nano-machine infusion therapy was originally devised as a method for man-machine computer interfaces, but has expanded in recent years to harnesses the power of microscopic nano-machines to enhance and augment human senses and reactions. Nano-machine infusion therapy often results in a a flu-like reaction usually lasts a few days, but can last weeks in extreme cases. The nano-machines synthesize energy from glucose in human blood, so someone so infused must be careful in managing their diet, and in extreme cases this can result in a dangerous drop in blood sugar levels in stressful situations. More recent models are designed to switch themselves off if the glucose levels reach a dangerous level as a safety measure. An infusion can last 4-5 years before re-treatment is required.

Nano-machine infused people can be identified by a silver patch of skin on the backs of their heads around the C1 vertebra, called the 'Atlas Port', and silver spots on the backs of their hands. These contact points can be used to connect to a Nano-Interface, which facilitates man-machine communication with a variety of items - computers, weapons, vehicles, etc) as an alternative to regular physical control.

Trials have been attempted in the past of incorporating nano-technology in applications beyond human infusion, but there has been little success. One notable trial created nanos that drew their power from earth's magnetic field and were to be deployed in the upper atmosphere as a way of controlling space debris - the nano-machines were designed to disassemble any unrecognized foreign object that entered the field and render it harmless. An accident in a lab where the nano-machines began disassembling everything around them caused 23 deaths and several billion dollars of damage. The resulting lawsuits forced the experimenting company, NCT NanoTechnology to shut down. As a result, the UWA passed several regulations preventing nano-machine applications that attempted to convert or deconstruct matter in uncontrolled environments.

Genesys Rules

Tier 1
Name Activation Ranked Text Source
Nano-Machine Infusion Active (Incidental, Out of Turn) No The base-level of nano-machine infusion therapy, it gives the recipient heightened reactions and abilities. Once per encounter, a character with Nano-machine Infusion can add a b to their next single skill check.

This also facilitates man-machine communication with a variety of items equipped with a nano-interface - computers, weapons, vehicles, etc - as an alternative to regular physical control.
