Nano-machine infusion therapy often results in a a flu-like reaction usually lasts a few days, but can last weeks in extreme cases. The nano-machines synthesize energy from glucose in human blood, so someone so infused must be careful in managing their diet, and in extreme cases this can result in a dangerous drop in blood sugar levels in stressful situations. More recent models are designed to switch themselves off if the glucose levels reach a dangerous level as a safety measure. An infusion can last 4-5 years before re-treatment is required.

Nanomachine infused people can be identified by a silver patch of skin on the backs of their heads around the C1 vertebra, called the '[[Genesys:Items|Atlas Port]]', and silver spots on the backs of their hands. These contact points can be used to connect to a Nano-Interface, which faciliates man-machine communication with a variety of items - computers, weapons, vehicles, etc) as an alternative to regular physical control.

Trials have been attempted in the past of incorporating nano-technology in applications beyond human infusion, but there has been little success. One such trial created nano that drew their power from earth's magnetic field and were to be deployed in the upper atmosphere as a way of controlling space debris - the nano-machines were designed to disassemble any unrecognized foreign object that entered the field and render it harmless, but an accident in a lab resulted in several billion dollars of damage and lawsuits to the point that the parent company, NCT NanoTechnology was forced the discontinue production. As a result, the UWA passed several regulations preventing nano-machine applications that attempted to convert or deconstruct matter in an uncontrolled environment.
