Trials have been attempted in the past of incorporating nano-technology in applications beyond human infusion, but there has been little success. One notable trial created nanos that drew their power from earth's magnetic field and were to be deployed in the upper atmosphere as a way of controlling space debris - the nano-machines were designed to disassemble any unrecognized foreign object that entered the field and render it harmless. An accident in a lab where the nano-machines began disassembling everything around them caused 23 deaths and several billion dollars of damage. The resulting lawsuits forced the experimenting company, NCT NanoTechnology to shut down. As a result, the UWA passed several regulations preventing nano-machine applications that attempted to convert or deconstruct matter in uncontrolled environments.
