Game Outline

  1. Finding the first part of the gate. – July 1st 2315
    1. The Macedonians have identified a planet located in a system they call XM-0089. It is a barren terrestrial planet with a series of rings consisting of chunks of ice and dust. One of the missing spars of the gate is believed to be orbiting within the ring system.
    2. Questions and other concerns from PC’s.
  2. Reaching The system
    1. Morning with Barnabas – July 15 2315 0700
    2. Doesn’t seem to eat much for breakfast. Has one of his journals with him and is reading through it.
  3. Meeting the Phaestyns (Bear) – July 15 2315 0900
    1. After jumping into system, an alert goes up and the PC’s are scrambled. They are barely out of the launch tubes when the alert is called off as a voice greets them over the comm.
    2. (Russian Accent) Greetings. I am Group Commandant Bol’shaya of the Phaestyns. You are the ones known as Earthlings are you not? Hello to you and your Starlight.
      1. Bol’shaya is out here by himself. He is on a mission between two planet ships and was passing through the system when he saw them appear on his scanners and thought he would say hello.
    3. At some point the captain interrupts the conversation: I say, perhaps we should greet our friend on board.
      1. Bol’shaya agrees, and the PC’s are requested to escort him to the landing bay at the rear of the ship and to join them
      2. There they are greeting by the captain: Greetings great bear, and welcome to our humble Starlight.
      3. Bol’shaya bows before the captain who returns the gesture.
      4. I suppose questioning can go on here about the thing.
      5. Bol’shaya will say that he noticed a gravitational disturbance in the system but was not planning on investigating it. Will gladly accompany them though. He will even insist.
      6. At some point, he will go back to his ship, and retrieve a bottle, and insist they all have a drink to celebrate the meeting.
      7. Sikarna will scan the contents of the bottle to ensure that it’s not harmful. (though it is alcohol) The captain will insist on the pilots taking a drink.
      8. The ship he is from is the Gordest
      9. Zakiri does maintenece on mosquito.
        1. AT THE END OF THE SCENE, have Zakiri approach Barnabas: Lieutenant Commander, the maintenance ordered on Moz 1183 is done, so feel free to take her out instead
      10. Barnabas is in the landing bay, but he stays by the door leafing through his journal until the captain leaves
      11. He’ll hold a short briefing with them there, including Bol’Shaya
        1. Seems tired as he gives his briefing.
          1. Circles under eyes, trails off when explaining thing
          2. If our new Ursine friend will help show us the way of this disturbance he detected, I’m sure it will be a great help locating the item.
        2. He’ll be out with them in a mosquito.
          1. The mosquito is parked in the landing bay, so he gets into it immediately
      12. PC’s will be given time to modify their MS if they’d like.
  4. Recovering the gate part – 1800
    1. As you enter the ring system of the planet, the engine wash of your MS disturbs the dust and ice that make up the rings. Your view screen is obscured as you’re surrounded by the floating debris. Operating your Mechanized Soldier will be more difficult.
    2. Skills to get the piece back to the ship. Piloting, maybe even mechanics. Hard difficulty all, plus 2 setback dice because of the space dust & ice.
    3. It is very large, so more than one MS will be needed to move it
    4. Failures cause damage to the MS
    5. Setbacks cause system strain to the MS
    6. Setback dice on ranged attacks and piloting checks because the area the gate piece is located is surrounded by rock and ice, and the disturbances caused by the MS “kicks” it up
  5. The final flight of Barnabas – 1935
    1. Attack by Watchers – not time to refresh off the previous issue
    2. Fight with the Type 2 Watchers approaching from the fore of the ship
      1. The Watchers are just appearing on the scopes – they are heralded by a burst of tachyon.
      2. This draws the MS’s outwards
    3. At the end of the fight
      1. Another Tachyon pulse registers on your scanner, and you hear Barnabas shout over the comm.
        1. “Too close! You son of a bitch!”
      2. You turn to see a Watcher looming over the aft of the ship, between the engine blocks. The light on its chest glowing brightly. It’s Too far, you think, desperately punching the throttle and heading towards the enemy. The Mosquito piloted by your commanding officer turns deftly and launches itself full speed at the enemy. Starlight, get out of here! He shouts over the comm., and as the Starlight’s engines flare to life the nose of the mosquito crumples and shatters as it rams full speed into the enemy vessel. The impact pushes both the mosquito and the watcher into the Starlight’s engine wash, the beginning of a scream from Barnabas cuts off as the gravitational forces crush the two vehicles together, and send them hurtling away from your ship. The wreckage doesn’t travel very far before the watcher vessel explodes in a blinding light… leaving nothing behind.
